Scholarly Endeavors
I recently (2021) earned my Ph.D. in educational leadership and policy studies in higher education at Oklahoma State University (Stillwater). My dissertation was titled "Gender, Spirituality, and Sexuality: Exploring Men's Intersecting Identities." And served as a visiting scholar with the Interdisciplinary Gender Research Group at the University of Stavanger for the 2019-2021 school years. My primary research focus is the intersection of sexual identity development and spiritual identity development in college men. I started investigating this topic during my masters program at the University of Virginia, and began presenting on it in 2013. I have presented at conferences for ACPA: College Student Educators International, Association of Christians in Student Development, and the International Society for the Scientific Study of Subjectivity.

In addition to identity development and gender, I have published on the experiences of transfer students as well as the experiences of queer men in rural America (Google Scholar). Prior to entering higher education, I studied school psychology with a particular interest in language development and school climate. My research experiences in school and educational psychologies focused primarily on classroom interactions (from preschool through middle school) and kindergarten readiness at the University of Virginia's Center for Advanced Study of Teaching and Learning as well as at the University of California, Santa Barbara. While I love studying common education, I find that I am more effective funneling this passion through my political involvement rather than academic activity.
